OUSD to get its first Montessori program
Briefly

Urban Montessori Charter School in Oakland, established in 2012, is set to close after the Alameda County Board of Education declined its charter renewal due to low performance metrics. However, discussions between Urban Montessori and Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) leaders have emerged to host this Montessori model at Brookfield Elementary by 2025-2026. This initiative aims to provide a child-centered educational approach in the district, reflecting community feedback and the need for diverse instructional practices.
"The opportunity to bring this model that did not previously exist in the district is really exciting," said Kilian Betlach, OUSD's director of enrollment.
"It's what we should be doing as a district - looking at instructional models that have viability and proven track records and listening to what a broad section of the community is saying they want for their kids."
