Laura Syer, who has been integral to Cornell as vice president for budget and planning since 2021, is departing to join New York University in a similar role. Her tenure at Cornell has been marked by significant achievements in budget management and institutional planning. Provost Kavita Bala praised Syer's invaluable leadership and professionalism during her 13 years at Cornell. Syer expressed gratitude for her experiences and emphasized the collaborative culture she fostered within the division. She previously held positions in the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business and succeeded Paul Streeter in her current role.
"I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the many opportunities, support and professional growth I have enjoyed during my time on the Ithaca campus," Syer said.
"Laura has truly been an invaluable leader of the Division of Budget and Planning, and I appreciate her professionalism and good nature," Bala said.
