"We are overwhelmed with relief and gratitude at the release of our beloved Leqaa Kordia. This past year has taken an unimaginable toll on Leqaa and our entire family."
"My way of helping my family and my people was to go to the streets. Kordia said she joined the 2024 demonstration after Israel killed scores of her relatives in Gaza, where she maintains deep personal ties."
"The charges against her for the protest were dismissed and sealed. Information about her arrest was later given to the Trump administration by the New York City Police Department, which said it was told the records were needed as part of a money laundering investigation."
Leqaa Kordia, a 33-year-old Palestinian from the West Bank living in New Jersey since 2016, was released from immigration detention in Texas after one year in custody. She was arrested in March 2025 during an ICE check-in after participating in 2024 protests at Columbia University. An immigration judge ordered her release on bond three times; the government challenged the first two rulings but did not challenge the third. Kordia's arrest followed the Trump administration's enforcement actions against noncitizens critical of Israel. She had been hospitalized for three days after suffering a seizure at the detention facility. Her protest participation was motivated by Israel's killing of numerous relatives in Gaza.
