A 14-year-old boy and an 18-year-old friend were on top of an NYC J train traveling through Lower Manhattan toward Brooklyn. The younger boy attempted to crouch to avoid a beam on the tracks. He was struck in the head and then fell onto the rails, while the other boy fell to the ground below. Both teenagers were found unconscious on the tracks. The 14-year-old died, and the 18-year-old was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. A memorial was set up in the deceased boy’s building lobby with messages from friends, neighbors, and loved ones. A schoolmate recalled lunch together and urged him to be careful before the fatal incident occurred.
"The footage shows a 14-year-old boy and his 18-year-old friend on top of the NYC J train as it sped along the tracks in Lower Manhattan on its way to Brooklyn. One of the boys is then struck in the head by a beam on the train tracks before the other falls all the way down to the ground below. As one boy looks to crouch down in an effort to avoid the beam, he can then be seen falling straight onto his back on the rails, according to a police source."
"The two teenagers were both found unconscious on the tracks. The younger of the two was killed in the horrific incident while the 18-year-old was left with severe injuries. The older teen, who celebrated his 18th birthday on Friday, was rushed to Bellevue hospital in critical condition."
"A memorial was set up on Saturday night in the lobby of the deceased young boy's building, with friends, neighbors and loved ones leaving messages on a piece of cardboard for him. One child who attended school with the boy, said, "He was my best friend," before recalling how they had lunch together in the school cafeteria on Friday. "The last time I saw him was the day he died," he added."
""At lunch, we were laughing together. I was just saying to him, 'Always be careful. Please, be careful.' "And he was like, 'All right bro, I got you.' And then to see this five hours later, it's just crazy. Really crazy." According to one of the family's neighbors, the young boy had just graduated middle school at the time of the disturbing accident."
