In just over a year, Cornell University's child care initiative has successfully created nearly 200 new slots in Tompkins County, surpassing its first-year goal of 50. This initiative, launched in partnership with the Child Development Council, aims to tackle the shortage of child care options affecting working families in the region. Cornell's investment, up to $300,000 annually for five years, supports both new and expanding child care programs, reflecting its commitment to fostering a supportive community environment that enhances workforce recruitment and retention.

Increasing availability and expanding access to child care is vital to the health of our community and the strength of our local workforce.

This initiative has given us the opportunity to support new and expanding child care programs with much-needed funding.
