Gorgeous weather and great music filled Tompkins Square Park during the New Village Music Festival, drawing smiling faces and dancing feet. Performances covered World Hip Hop, Hip Hop Soul, Poetry, Latin Boogaloo, Traditional Puerto Rican Folk, and Salsa, with DJ Andre Cirilo filling between sets. Featured acts included Izzy Medina, Zoeh G, Aleathia Brown, Bebe Bambu ft. Diana Nugu, Kiki & The Fellas, Yotoco, and Swing Combo. David Soto (aka DaSo), a Loisaida native and Acker Award winner, founded the free festival in 2007 to unify live music, dance, and performing art. Volunteers, including emcee Giraldo Luis Alvare, supported the annual community event. Soto also runs the Piragua Art Space and Piragua Clothing Brand; scheduling conflicts prevented his own performance that day.
