SummerStage returns with over 70 shows in NYC parks, nearly all free, starting with an opening night featuring jazz and New Orleans-themed festivities on June 4. Notable headliners include Femi Kuti and Jessica Pratt, with artist-curated nights showcasing community talents. Special concerts support the City Parks Foundation, including tickets for premium shows. Events span five boroughs and include artists like Big Freedia and The Roots, ensuring diverse musical experiences through local communities. The festival runs until September 16, encouraging attendees to enjoy performances across Central Park and beyond.
Many of this year's evenings are curated by artists themselves, according to City Parks Foundation Executive Director Heather Lubov, including 'Blacktronica,' a festival of POC electronic artists, at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem.
Opening night is set for Wednesday, June 4 in Central Park, with a free New Orleans-themed celebration featuring jazz great Marcus Miller and NPR 'Tiny Desk' winners Tank and the Bangas.
