St. John's cruises past Providence to advance to Big East Tournament semifinals

St. John's advanced to the Big East Tournament semifinals with an 85-72 victory over Providence at Madison Square Garden. The Red Storm dominated with exceptional first-half defense, holding Providence to limited scoring. Zuby Ejiofor, named unanimous Big East Player of the Year, led St. John's with 21 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks on efficient shooting. Bryce Hopkins contributed 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. This rematch followed a heated February 14 brawl between the teams that resulted in seven ejections, stemming from Hopkins' transfer from Providence to St. John's. Hopkins delivered two first-half dunks, including a highlight-reel tomahawk, as St. John's pulled away decisively.
