Three years into a downturn of the global art market, works on paper, particularly prints, are performing better than other media. The IFPDA Print Fair, held at the Park Avenue Armory, saw significant attendance records and increased ticket sales, which reflects this trend. According to Jenny Gibbs, the executive director of IFPDA, the segment has experienced incredible growth despite concerns in other areas of the market. Younger collectors are engaging more with editioned works, contributing to rising sales and expanding the demographic of art collectors.
"Although there's been some softening at the top of the market, people look at evening sales and make these dire prognostications. What we're seeing in our segment of the market has been incredible growth."
"We had more applications for this fair than we have had in many, many years... So I've ordered 50% more champagne than we had last year!"
