M.I.A. (Mathangi Arulpragasam) sued Kid Cudi in California federal court, alleging he removed her from Live Nation’s “Rebel Ragers Tour” in early May to generate publicity despite weak ticket sales. She claimed Kid Cudi knew her political beliefs and reputation before inviting her and that her contract granted full creative control over her set. The complaint says she was terminated in bad faith, harming her contractual rights, business opportunities, and reputation, and she seeks damages exceeding $2.8 million in guaranteed pay. Kid Cudi, whose birth name is Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, booted her after a May 3 Dallas show drew boos. M.I.A. said her onstage remarks referenced her song “ILLYGIRL,” and she later posted that she cannot vote in the U.S. Kid Cudi stated he had an understanding that nothing offensive would occur at his shows and said fans were upset by her rants.
""M.I.A. was terminated to generate publicity for the Tour, which has struggled with ticket sales," the complaint alleges. "She was contractually allowed to say whatever she wanted on stage. M.I.A. now holds Kid Cudi accountable for his bad faith destruction of her contractual rights, business opportunities, and reputation.""
