Irish rap group Kneecap has faced backlash for their pro-Palestinian statements made during their Coachella performance, where they called out Israeli actions in Gaza. The group challenged critics, including media personalities, arguing that their statements reflected the dire humanitarian crisis in Palestine rather than aggression. Following the performance, they reported receiving death threats and defended their right to speak out amid harsh criticism. Despite the controversy, Kneecap continues to grow their audience, having sold out their upcoming October tour in the US and Canada.
During our set, we made statements regarding the genocide happening in Palestine and the complicity of the US government, arguing that our protests are necessary.
The criticisms we face, including from notable figures, are trivial compared to the violence faced by Palestinians daily; it’s a matter of life and death.
