Kim Gordon has transformed her song 'BYE BYE' into a protest track titled 'BYE BYE 25!' in response to President Trump's administration. This remake incorporates significant words that have been deemed unacceptable by the administration, thus endorsing a cultural critique. Gordon partnered with Justin Raisen to create this bass-heavy version, pairing it with a music video. Proceeds from the song will support NOISE FOR NOW, a nonprofit focused on reproductive rights, while also reflecting widespread concerns about the limitation of language and expression in cultural discourse.
Gordon explains, "When I was thinking of lyric ideas it occurred to me to use words taken from a site that had all the words that Trump has essentially banned."
The remake of 'BYE BYE' substitutes original lyrics for banned words, highlighting the cultural impact of policies affecting grant projects and research proposals.
Proceeds from 'BYE BYE 25!' will benefit NOISE FOR NOW, a nonprofit connecting artists with grassroots organizations focused on reproductive rights and health.
Gordon states, "He [Trump] is literally trying to cancel culture. I guess Trump does believe in cancel culture."
