Belong is Jay Som's first album in six years, set for release on October 10th via Polyvinyl Record Co. It follows her 2019 album and is her first project with guest vocalists, including Jimmy Eat World's Jim Adkins, Paramore's Hayley Williams, and Mini Trees' Lexi Vega. Collaborators Joao Gonzalez and Mal Hauser contributed significantly to the album. Duterte expressed the challenge of letting go of some creative control while creating the record, emphasizing the importance of collaboration. The album's first singles are "Float" and "A Million Reasons Why."
Dropping on October 10th via Polyvinyl Record Co., Belong is the follow-up to Melina Duterte's excellent 2019 album. Duterte wrote, composed, performed, produced, engineered, and mixed the record, which marks her first project to feature guest vocalists.
When you try something for the first time, you're always going to hold some type of fear, but I had to come to terms with the fact that I had to let go of some control. This record is essentially still me, but a lot of choices were made by friends who helped me, because I trusted them.
The music video, directed by Nina Ljeti, even "unintentionally but very serendipitously" references Jimmy Eat World's "The Middle" visual.
Jay Som will kick off a headlining run of Europe and the UK, followed by a string of US dates kicking off November 23rd in Los Angeles.
