Hamilton, the acclaimed Broadway musical, has canceled its performances at the Kennedy Center for 2026, in response to President Donald Trump's recent control over the center's board. Producer Jeffrey Seller expressed concerns about the new culture enforced at the institution, indicating that the show could not ethically participate. Trump had previously criticized the center for its programming, particularly drag shows aimed at youth. This change in leadership has resulted in a board entirely appointed by Trump, replacing Biden's selections.
"Our show simply cannot, in good conscience, participate and be a part of this new culture that is being imposed on the Kennedy Center," said Jeffrey Seller.
Trump blasted the Kennedy Center for featuring drag shows specifically targeting young people, indicating a shift in the center's cultural direction.
