"At first I thought they were going to donate, like they enjoyed the music. Instead, they started to grab the cash he had made, he said—even with his phone recording. When I saw they were taking away the money that I had earned, it just brought me down even worse."
"When I came up to him, he told me to back up, and that was when he reached in his coat and pulled a firearm. You could have asked nicely, you know? There's creative ways to earn it as well, like what I'm doing."
"This individual was at a TTC station playing his guitar, trying to earn a little money on the side. And just to be approached by three male suspects to try to take that money and also produced a firearm is very concerning to us."
Toronto musician J.soul was busking and livestreaming at Finch Subway Station when three people approached and stole the cash he had earned. When he confronted them, one suspect brandished a firearm. Despite the threatening situation, J.soul remained calm and suggested the suspects could earn money through legitimate means like busking. Toronto police arrested a 19-year-old and a 16-year-old, charging both with robbery with a firearm. One suspect remains outstanding. Police characterized the incident as concerning and unfortunate, highlighting the danger faced by street performers.
