There Are Calls To 'Boycott' Fourth Of July Hot Dog Contest
Briefly

The 2025 Nathan's Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest is scheduled for July 4 at Coney Island, New York City, airing live on ESPN. Joey Chestnut, the record-holding champion, expresses excitement about his return after missing last year due to a conflict with a competing company's endorsement. While the event remains popular, PETA plans to protest outside, encouraging attendees to choose vegan hot dogs over traditional ones. PETA representatives aim to challenge spectators' views on eating meat during the holiday.
I'm thrilled to be returning to the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest. This event means the world to me. It's a cherished tradition, a celebration of American culture, and a huge part of my life.
A spokesperson for the animal rights org. says PETA mascots -- including Tommy Tofu and 'his PETA pals' -- will be outside of the event at Nathan's Famous in Brooklyn on Friday afternoon in the hopes of deterring fans from eating tube steaks.
Vegan hot dogs are delicious and kind, and who really wants to support slaughterhouses -- that is just not a part of the Fourth of July.
