Bedford Cheese Shop is set to close its last location after 14 years due to a combination of factors including a mandatory building renovation, increasing operational costs, and economic challenges. Previously, the beloved cheese shop had lost its Bedford Avenue location during the pandemic. In a farewell announcement, they expressed optimism about change and new beginnings. Meanwhile, a new wine bar called Babysips has opened in Lower Manhattan, and Hampton Chutney Co. is making a comeback with a new lease in Astor Place, reviving its popular dosa offerings from the Hamptons.
The announcement posted to the company website states that an exit at 67 Irving Place in Gramercy was necessary because 'the building is set to undergo an extensive, multi-year renovation.'
The woman-owned cheese shop had previously closed its namesake location in Williamsburg in 2020 after a 17-year run - a casualty of the pandemic.
In its farewell post for Manhattan, the team hinted that 'change is a constant, and with every challenge comes the possibility of new beginnings.'
Lower Manhattan's latest wine bar comes from Cosme alums David Wilson and Zoe Clifton, who opened Babysips, the next hot natural wine bar.
