The New York Yankees held a special Pride celebration at Yankee Stadium, honoring the recipients of the Yankees-Stonewall Scholarship Initiative. This year marks the sixth installment of the initiative, which awards $50,000 annually to five graduating seniors from New York City who excel academically and advocate for LGBTQ+ equality. Yankees co-owner Jennifer Steinbrenner Swindal emphasized the significance of honoring these students, while Stonewall Inn's Stacy Lentz praised the team's genuine commitment to the community, underscoring the importance of their involvement in the scholarship process.
This event is also the middle of such a big week for us, and to be able to kick off by honoring these amazing students here on the field of Yankee Stadium is just so meaningful.
For the Yankees as an organization, this is not being performative whatsoever, the senior management from the top down sit in on these interviews with these students.
