Christ Lutheran Church in Staten Island is gearing up for its 100th anniversary with volunteer spring cleaning and community events. Volunteers assembled to prepare the church for a series of celebrations, including a gala luncheon and various activities leading up to the main event. Beth Hunt, a longtime member, actively recruits current and former parishioners to participate. Notably, the church has launched a fundraising effort called "100 for 100" aiming to raise $100,000. Rev. Wolfgang Laudert emphasizes the importance of reflecting on the church's century-long history as part of the celebrations.
"Many hands make light work," said Beth Hunt, who was busy polishing the church pews as volunteers gathered for spring cleaning to prepare for the church's centennial events.
The Rev. Wolfgang Laudert reflected, "I want to rediscover why we built this church 100 years ago," as he reviewed the church's history in preparation for the centennial.
