Religious and civic leaders reflect on Pope Francis' legacy
Briefly

Pope Francis, the first South American pope and Jesuit pontiff, passed away on the morning after Easter Sunday, following a cerebral stroke that led to coma and heart failure. His historic 12-year papacy was characterized by humility and a commitment to social justice, the environment, and interfaith unity. Religious leaders in Brooklyn expressed sorrow over his loss, particularly highlighting his ability to connect the Church with the people. Bishop Robert J. Brennan and Bishop Gregory John Mansour commended his efforts to create a more inclusive Church community.
On this Easter Monday, as Catholics throughout the world rejoice in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, we now mourn the passing of our Holy Father, Pope Francis. Throughout his historic papacy, Pope Francis served as the leader of the Catholic Church with great humility.
He made the Church closer to the people, and the people closer to the Church, which is what I loved about him. The church should not be a museum but rather a field hospital.
