NYPD's 'Italian Sherlock Holmes' finally receives grave marker more than century after death
Briefly

Detective Joseph Pucciano, nicknamed the "Italian Sherlock Holmes," received a headstone in Brooklyn's Green-Wood Cemetery a year after his partner Bernardino Grottano was similarly honored. Grottano was killed in 1924 during a robbery, while Pucciano, who died in 1928, had been unmarked until now. Their graves, located in a private lot, went without recognition for years due to various reasons. Family research and support from the Detectives' Endowment Association helped secure the markers, providing a historical acknowledgment of their contributions to the NYPD and their fight against organized crime.
I think it's a wonderful thing to get this detective a headstone so his grandchildren and maybe their grandchildren can have a place to remember him.
Pucciano had a highly successful law enforcement career taking down ruthless mobsters, criminal gangs and locked up at least 40 killers, many of whom wound up in the electric chair.
