A Lesotho LGBTQ+ rights organization refuted claims by former President Trump that it received $8 million in US funding to promote LGBTQ+ rights. People's Matrix spokesperson Tampose Mothopeng stated they have not received such funds and are unaware of any allocations. The US government's foreign assistance records show significant funding for health but none for LGBTQ+ rights. Lesotho's Foreign Affairs Minister criticized Trump's remarks, pointing out the country's recognized status and the presence of a US embassy, countering the dismissive characterization of Lesotho.
We are literally not receiving grants from the US. We have no idea of the allocation of eight million dollars. We do not know who received or is going to receive that money.
To my surprise, 'the country that nobody has heard of' is the country where the U.S. has a permanent mission. Lesotho is a member of the UN and of a number of other international bodies.
