The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, has canceled a weekâs worth of events celebrating LGBTQ+ rights scheduled for the World Pride festival due to a shift in priorities following leadership changes. With the cancellation of the Tapestry of Pride events, which were planned for early June, Washington's Capital Pride Alliance has distanced itself from the center. The changes come after political upheavals at the Kennedy Center, including the dismissal of its leadership amid controversial Trump administration policies affecting LGBTQ+ rights. Although disappointed, advocates emphasize the community's resilience in seeking alternative celebration avenues.
We are a resilient community, and we have found other avenues to celebrate... but the fact that we have to maneuver in this way is disappointing.
The move comes on the heels of massive changes at the Kennedy Center, with President Donald Trump firing both the president and chairman in early February.
