Gilgo Beach murders: How a paper towel linked Rex Heuermann to 1 of his victims, DA says
"This was his obsession. With his internet searches and his thought process, this was what was driving him."
"The SKU number was for a Bounty paper towel with that same pattern. And so we were able to show that this Bounty paper towel was purchased by the defendant."
"That paper towel square was a memento for Heuermann, adding that prosecutors would have utilized that at trial to link him to the commission of that particular murder."
Rex Heuermann admitted to the murders of eight women, including Megan Waterman, during a court appearance. He targeted sex workers, strangled them, and disposed of their bodies near Gilgo Beach from 1993 to 2010. Evidence linking Heuermann to Waterman included a Bounty paper towel found in her mouth, which had a unique pattern only available in 2010. Investigators discovered a BJ's receipt for the same paper towels in Heuermann's home, along with a matching piece kept in his office as a memento.
