The NYPD triumphed over the FDNY in the annual Battle of the Badges volleyball match, held on March 8 at Maspeth High School. This event blends competition with tribute, remembering fallen first responders. A moment of silence began the event, and proceeds supported the PBA Widows' and Children's Fund and the Ray Pfeifer Foundation. FDNY coach Gerry Matacotta noted the importance of showcasing first responders as community members, while NYPD captain Randy Adams emphasized camaraderie despite competition, highlighting the event's role in supporting families of those lost in the line of duty.
We want people to see firefighters and police officers as human beings. We play ball, have families, and are part of the community.
It's a friendly competition, but at the end of the day, we stand together in service to the city.
