Easter in Dolores Park this year was marked by a vibrant celebration honoring the LGBTQ+ community, especially the trans community, which faces rising political challenges. Hosted by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the event rallied participants against the anti-trans sentiments amplified since the Trump administration took office. Through defiant speeches and colorful festivities, including the beloved Hunky Jesus pageant, organizers stressed unity and resilience within queer spaces, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging trans individuals' contributions to LGBTQ+ history, ultimately transforming the day into a joyful protest of love and acceptance for all.
"I am really proud of our theme this year," Sister Roma told me. "No Easter without the T. It's to show our solidarity with the trans community, which is under brutal attack right now."
"The transgender community has been at the forefront of queer liberation," added Roma. "From the Compton's Cafeteria riots to Stonewall - there is no LGB without the T."
"I love this event because this represents everything they hate!" declared out gay State Senator Scott Wiener.
"Rainbow energy is brighter than life itself," proclaimed Sister Shelita Corndog during the opening prayer. "Free stolen immigrants and all of us who Trump would disappear. Unleash our joy!"
