During Black Pride weekend in Washington, D.C., Sinners and Saints, a bar for queer and trans people of color, was vandalized in a suspected hate crime. The attackers broke the front door, cut power, stole alcohol, and spray-painted slurs. Despite the damage, the bar's team expressed resolve to rebuild and remain a sanctuary for the community. With police investigating and city officials offering support, co-owner Blair Nixon emphasized the importance of the bar's mission in protecting marginalized communities amidst a troubling political climate.
It's really disheartening. If you have somebody who's in your space who isn't supposed to be there, it's scary.
We are heartbroken, but we are not broken. Sinners and Saints is resistance. We will rebuild. We will STAY OPEN.
