Frank Agoglia, who served with the U.S. Armyâs 82nd Airborne during World War II, passed away at 101. His combat experience began tragically with a glider crash on D-Day that resulted in casualties among his unit. Agoglia participated in significant battles like Sainte-Mère-Ãglise and Operation Market Garden. He was one of six brothers who fought in the war, highlighting the contributions of the Greatest Generation. His daughter emphasized their heroic legacy, stating they 'saved the world' from tyranny, reflecting on the family's deep connection to military service.
"These guys like my Dad, they saved the world. That's how I view it," said his daughter Susan Pombano, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
"Frank Agoglia recounted how he and brothers John, Rocco, Jim, Joe and Anthony served in the war. Brother Ray was too young."
Agoglia's first wartime action involved a plane crash: His glider split in half on impact with the ground in the middle of a farm field in France.
Frank Agoglia went on to soldier through fabled battles at Sainte-Mère-Ãglise and La Fière Bridge and later at the Battle of Nijmegen.
