"Take this down! He's a terrorist who's killed American soldiers and I think it was insane that I was right there and there was a vigil so I just took the sign down. I felt that was the right thing to do. I feel like someone should show up for the Iranian people."
"The group commemorating the leader of the murderous regime claimed he defended the Iranian people - and they credited him for his bloodthirsty opposition to Israel. They also boasted his support for progressive causes, according to a vigil handout."
"An Iranian woman who immigrated to the US said the pro-Khamenei protesters were clueless about the realities of the terroristic regime. These are mad dogs. These mad dogs that cannot be released in the world."
A vigil honoring deceased Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Washington Square Park turned violent when anti-regime protester Rami Even-Esh removed a picture of the leader. Khamenei supporters attacked him, knocking him down and kicking him until police intervened and arrested him. About 25 mourners attended the vigil while roughly two dozen counter-protesters, some of Iranian descent or pro-Israel supporters, chanted opposition slogans. The vigil organizers praised Khamenei's defense of Iranian people and opposition to Israel, while displaying flowers, flags, and his image. An Iranian immigrant criticized the pro-Khamenei protesters for misunderstanding the nature of Iran's regime.
