Activists ignore Trump as they return pride flag to Stonewall monument
"Our elected officials, though I love them, brought in their own flagpole and planted it in the ground in front of it, and their plastic pole was lower than that flagpole, so it resulted in our Rainbow Flag being lower than [the American Flag] and not on the actual flagpole. The least we could do is to put our flag higher on this cord than the American Flag."
"I feel so empowered to say my community showed up en masse. To have our space invaded like this is criminal. And, of course, the person that is directing these sycophants to in"
A pride flag removed under January guidance restricting flags at National Park Service sites was reinstalled at Stonewall National Monument three days later. Activists, joined by Manhattan officials, raised a replacement flag on a newly placed pole, but that pole sat lower and left the rainbow flag at half-mast. Activists Jay W Walker and Josh Tjaden then mounted the pride flag on the original flagpole so it could fly alongside, and slightly above, the American flag. The initial pride flag had been installed in 2022. Community members filled Christopher Park and expressed anger at the removal and intimidation.
