Muse Launch New Album The Wow! Signal in Space
"In 1977, a powerful 72-second radio burst was detected originating from the Sagittarius constellation with a bandwidth and intensity that suggested a possible extraterrestrial source. After discovering it, the astronomer circled the now-famous sequence "6EQUJ5" and scribbled "Wow!" beside it."
"The Wow! Signal describes the album as being "a mix of cosmic mystery, existential hope, and the exhilarating possibility of contact with something far greater than ourselves." It helps that one of the songs is titled "Cryogen.""
Muse announced their new album The Wow! Signal through an unconventional method, launching a special tablet over 20 miles into the atmosphere in partnership with Sent Into Space. The album's title references a famous 1977 astronomical mystery when a 72-second radio burst was detected from the Sagittarius constellation with characteristics suggesting possible extraterrestrial origin. An astronomer marked the discovery with the notation "6EQUJ5" and wrote "Wow!" beside it. The 10-song album, releasing June 26 via Warner, explores themes of cosmic mystery, existential hope, and contact with something greater than ourselves. It includes previously released single "Unravelling" and new single "Be With You."
