Annahstasia: Tiny Desk Concert
Annahstasia’s vocals are soothing, strong, textured, and grounded, matching the band’s varied instrumentation. Between songs, she gives tender instructions that shape the listening experience like deep breaths. Each performance follows a rise-and-fall arc: the group starts softly, intensifies toward a crescendo, and then settles into a gentle landing. The set includes “Stress Test,” “Be Kind,” “Sunday,” and “Villain.” “Villain” begins as a song about insecurity, then ends with a new, more hopeful verse. She sings the added lines over Hailey Niswanger’s bird-like whistling, turning doubt and fear into a return to abundant love.
"At the Tiny Desk, it's exquisitely attuned with the band's varied instrumentation. Like deep breaths, each song rises and falls as the group starts softly, builds to a crescendo, then lands in a gentle place."
