The Dallas premiere received mixed, lukewarm reviews and left the creative team disillusioned. The collaborators stepped away from the project for several years before returning to rework and retool the material. The reworked show, retitled "Shucked," achieved a successful 2023-24 Broadway run and launched a North American tour, with a stop at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco from Sept. 9 to Oct. 5. Clark acknowledged feeling ready to walk away after the initial disappointment, and Horn credited stepping away and restarting with saving the project.
