X Factor contestant Chico guilty of drink-driving
"Chico stated, 'It was after a third bereavement of one of my dearest friends, which was just devastating. On that fateful day, I'm teetotal, I don't drink, and it felt like I was going out of my mind, couldn't take it, so I drank.'"
"He expressed his fears, saying, 'sadly have all come true' regarding 'the press, the loss of my reputation, the loss of work... everything has happened, it has been a catastrophe.'"
Chico, known as Yousseph Slimani, was convicted of drink-driving after consuming whisky for six hours following the death of a close friend. He registered 40 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the legal limit. Slimani faced financial difficulties and was in debt, which contributed to his distress. He expressed regret over his actions and the impact on his reputation and career. The court imposed a 12-month driving ban, a fine, and offered a rehabilitation scheme for drink drivers.
