""I had no intention of being a film composer.""
""I'm still kind of pinching myself," Mothersbaugh told the audience at the top of the show, describing the joy of bringing often-rushed scores to life. "You're in a hurry - you're rushing to get the film or the TV show done. You record it, you play it one time ... so this has been a dream for me.""
Mark Mothersbaugh built a five-decade career composing for Devo, television themes, feature films, and video games, with more than 270 composer credits on IMDb. Signature contributions include Pee-wee's Playhouse, multiple Wes Anderson films, Crash Bandicoot, The Sims, The Lego Movie, and Thor: Ragnarok. A nearly sold-out performance at the Great American Music Hall on Jan. 18 paired Mothersbaugh with San Francisco's Red Room Orchestra during SF Sketchfest. The Red Room Orchestra selected the program, Mothersbaugh performed on two synths, several television themes were screened, and scenes from film scores were intercut to bring the music to life.
