"The album was colored by Grohl's love for horror movies, and also those made by the late filmmaker David Lynch. The result is an album that is as influenced by wide-screen cinema as it is by the musical instruments that were used to make it."
"The singer-songwriter's self-proclaimed encyclopedic knowledge of music also shines through on Be Sweet to Me, as influences come pouring from multiple directions. Alternative has its place of inspiration right alongside new wave, trip hop, Scandinavian black metal, vocal jazz, and '70s acoustic folk."
"Around the time I was 12, it clicked for me that I love watching other people make music, and maybe I could too. I had been writing poetry as well, and it kick-started the drive to want to turn painful experiences into art."
Violet Grohl announces her debut album Be Sweet to Me, arriving May 29th through Auroura Records and Republic Records. The project follows singles "THUM," "Applefish," and "595." Grohl crafted the album through a cinematic lens, drawing inspiration from horror movies and filmmaker David Lynch. The record blends multiple musical influences including alternative, new wave, trip hop, Scandinavian black metal, vocal jazz, and '70s acoustic folk. Recorded at producer Justin Raisen's Los Angeles studio with musicians assembled in the spirit of vintage Wrecking Crew session players, the album reflects Grohl's encyclopedic music knowledge and family musical heritage. She began songwriting around age twelve, transforming painful experiences into art.
