"I think if I made this album, it's because of the love and curiosity, wanting to learn other languages, wanting to understand better the other. Through understanding the other better, maybe you can understand yourself better and you can love learn how to love better. A lot of trying to understand how other languages work. It's a lot of intuition also, and trying to be like, OK, I'm going to just write and let's see how this will sound in another language."
"Google Translate and let's see, OK, let's see this word. How this word is said. OK, let me check with somebody who actually is a translator. Does this make sense? If I rhyme this with this, does this make sense? No, this actually don't make sense. OK, let me rephrase it. So constant backs and forth, like, for an entire year just dedicated on lyrics."
Rosalía created an album containing lyrics in 13 languages and invited collaborators such as Björk and the London Symphony Orchestra. The project stems from a desire to learn other languages, understand others, and deepen the ability to love. The songwriting process combined intuition, experimentation, Google Translate, and verification with translators to ensure meaning and rhyme. The work required repeated writing, recording, and assembling like a puzzle across about a year. The album includes lines in Latin, Sicilian, German, and Ukrainian and embraces global connectedness rather than cultural isolation.
