Get They Might Be Giant Tickets Here "Wu-Tang" is the first glimpse of what fans can expect, and if its sweetly nostalgic, 60s-esque sound is anything to go by, The World Is to Dig will be a romp through the past. ""Many years ago, we discussed the idea of celebrating an artist or a style of music, but in the form of a completely unrelated genre of music," says They Might Be Giants' John Linnell in a statement. "The original idea was a Tin Pan Alley-style song extolling the greatness of heavy metal. 'Wu-Tang' was written more or less along those lines, partly inspired by their TV biopic, but void of any musical reference to the great hip-hop collective. Are we fans? Sure! Would we ever attempt to emulate their sound? Not publicly.""
They Might Be Giants will release The World Is to Dig on April 14, their first full-length album in five years and featuring 18 new tracks. The lead single, "Wu-Tang," adopts a sweetly nostalgic, 60s-esque sound that suggests a romp through the past. An exclusive 180-gram color vinyl variant will be available at independent retail shops on April 17. The band described "Wu-Tang" as conceived as a Tin Pan Alley-style tribute to a genre, inspired partly by a TV biopic, while avoiding musical references to the hip-hop collective. A spring leg of The Bigger Show Tour will support the release.
