The North American tour of The Wiz will play the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts Jan. 27–Feb. 1 under the auspices of Broadway San Jose. The Wiz premiered on Broadway in 1975, ran 1,672 performances, and won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score. A 1978 film adaptation starred Diana Ross and initiated Quincy Jones’ collaboration with Michael Jackson. A recent Broadway revival ran March–August 2024 at the Marquis Theater. Tickets are available at broadwaysanjose.com, by phone, or at the San Jose Civic Box Office. On Jan. 19, more than 150 volunteers planted and tended trees at Rainbow Park for MLK Day of Service, with support from Councilmember Rosemary Kamei and leadership from Our City Forest.
