The New Pornographers Announce New Album The Former Site Of
""I don't like wasting my bandmates' time, and always felt guilty when I'd give them a song, ask them to do something, then completely change the song and ask them to do it again. Now I can get the skeleton of a song together first - just a couple of elements, the key feeling, really as little as possible - before bringing it to the band and running from there.""
""The Canadian group has offered "Votive," the latest single off The Former Site Of following last year's "Ballad Of The Last Payphone." Rooted in an expansive keyboard line, "Votive" lifts off and soars; Newman and Calder harmonize on the central hook, "I didn't see you there," as the song gains momentum and transforms into a majestic jam. The track also arrives with a video animated by Michael Arthur.""
""The New Pornographers are celebrating the release of The Former Site Of with a lengthy 2026 tour. They'll kick off the US run on April 22nd in Boston, followed by shows in cities like New York, Detroit, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Chicago, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin, Dallas, Atlanta, and more. The run ends in Washington D.C. on May 21st. Will Sheff of Okkervil River will support the band for the duration of the tour.""
The Former Site Of will be released March 27 via Merge Records as The New Pornographers' tenth studio album. A.C. Newman wrote the record in his home studio before bringing skeletons of songs to the full band, which includes Neko Case, Kathryn Calder, John Collins, Todd Fancey, and new drummer Charley Drayton. The band released the single "Votive," built around an expansive keyboard line with Newman and Calder harmonizing on the hook "I didn't see you there," and accompanied by an animated video by Michael Arthur. The band will tour the U.S. April 22–May 21, 2026, with Will Sheff supporting.
