The Messthetics formed around Fugazi's rhythm section of Joe Lally and Brendan Canty. The band released a debut album in 2018 and a follow-up a year later before collaborating with Lewis. Deface the Currency grew out of 150 shows played together in one year. A North American tour accompanies the release, with dates spanning the West Coast, Midwest, Canada, and multiple East Coast cities, including Washington, DC.
