"When he was 75, Bobby Weir told me that he looked forward to dying just not right away. He had too many things to do first. I have to live to my fullest capacity first, and then dying will take care of itself, he said when I asked him about mortality and the inexorable aging and fading of the '60s generation. The bigger picture for me is that I view death as the last and best reward for a life well lived."
Bobby Weir performed widely across venues including Casa Cipriani, Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium, Sweetwater Music Hall and large festivals. He appeared with various ensembles such as the Marin Symphony, Dead & Company and Further. Photographs document performances spanning decades, from Camp Lagunitas in 1966 through shows in 2023 and 2024. He died on Jan. 10 at age 78. At 75 he said he looked forward to dying but not right away, because he had many things to do first, and he viewed death as the final reward for a life lived fully.
