The Charlatans announce 'Some Friendly' 35th Anniversary expanded edition
"This gatefold double-LP / 2-CD set features the original 11-track album, remastered by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road, and the second disc features nine extra tracks including b-sides, remixes, alternate takes and other rarities which were curated by frontman Tim Burgess."
"It's a song about teenage feelings: I was 21 or 22, but had those powerful emotions. I was a big Byrds fan so the line "Everyone's been burned before, everyone knows the pain" is a nod to their song "Everybody's Been Burned". I was ecstatic when the Byrds' Roger McGuinn said he loved us. It's an unusual song construction. I'm still not sure which bit is the chorus. The title and main hook is in the verse, but the intro - before the main song crashes in - gives people just enough time to get on the dancefloor."
The Charlatans will release a 35th-anniversary expanded edition of Some Friendly on March 27 via Beggars Banquet. The gatefold double-LP/2-CD set contains the original 11-track album remastered by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road and a second disc with nine extra tracks including b-sides, remixes, alternate takes and rarities curated by frontman Tim Burgess. Tim Burgess supplied notes for the expanded tracklist and selected the bonus material. Some Friendly originally reached number one on the UK album charts after its fall 1990 release and features the singles "The Only One I Know", "Then", and "Sproston Green". The Charlatans released We Are Love in 2025 and have UK dates scheduled for spring.
