""I was obsessed with this album," said Parker. "I had been into a lot of nu metal stuff since I was a kid. Deftones was really the one that carried me through my teenage years.""
""It's another album where [if] I hear songs now, it almost hurts to hear them," Parker continued. "It takes me right back there to being a fragile human.""
""very important album for my musical upbringing""
""This album taught me that rock music can be hard, but also totally sexy," Parker added, before revealing how his guitar is "tuned down because of this album. I still haven't tuned up to standard tuning.""
Kevin Parker identifies Deftones' White Pony as an obsessive influence that carried him through his teenage years and evokes a fragile emotional response when heard now. He describes Queens of the Stone Age's Rated R as a very important album that made him feel like he was on drugs before taking them and taught him that rock can be both hard and sexy. Rated R changed his guitar approach, leading him to tune down and adopt more controlled playing rather than angsty aggression. Tame Impala released a new album in October, and Parker is currently touring Australia ahead of Europe and UK dates.
