Sugar Reunite for New York and London Concerts, Share First Song in 30 Years
"Back with their first music and shows in more than three decades, the new single, "House of Dead Memories," is "a failed-relationship song, nothing too unique for me," Mould tells Rolling Stone in an interview about the reunion. "But the riff is definitely a Sugar-type riff, and it was fun to get the three of us on the floor together to record for the first time in ages.""
"Sugar had reconvened in 2011, around their 20th anniversary, Mould says in the RS article. But "we all walked away thinking, 'Eh, not right now.' At least for me, it was like, 'I think I'm going to do what I'm doing.'" That was his ongoing solo career-his latest LP was March's Here We Go Crazy-but after regrouping in the studio last year, the trio decided the time was right."
Sugar reunited with Bob Mould, original bassist David Barbe and drummer Malcolm Travis and are releasing new music and performing shows in May 2026 in London and New York. The new single "House of Dead Memories" is described by Mould as a failed-relationship song with a recognizably Sugar riff recorded by the three members together. The trio briefly reconvened in 2011 but did not continue; Mould pursued a solo career, including the March LP Here We Go Crazy. After regrouping in the studio last year the band decided to move forward. Future activity will depend on audience response. A Hüsker Dü live box set is due next month.
