Spotify's new feature leaves users FURIOUS - 'nobody wants this'
Briefly

Spotify launched Messages, an optional in-app messaging tool that enables one-on-one chats, sharing of songs, podcasts, and audiobooks, and emoji reactions. The feature surfaces suggested contacts based on prior shared content, joined Jams, Blends, collaborative playlists, or shared Family or Duo plans. To start a message, users tap the share icon while listening, select a friend, and send; accepting a message request enables back-and-forth sharing and reactions. Messages can be accessed via the profile photo in the top-left corner. The launch provoked negative reactions on X, with users calling the feature unnecessary and worrying it could harm the service.
'Messages are for the conversations you're already having about music, podcasts and audiobooks with your friends and family,' Spotify explained. 'It's easy to start a chat in the app with people you know and have previously shared Spotify content with. 'You'll also see suggested people to message based on things like whether you've previously shared Spotify content with them, joined Jams, Blends, or collaborative playlists together, or if you share a Family or Duo plan.'
To send a message, simply tap the 'share' icon when listening to a song, podcast, or audiobook. Select the friend you'd like to message, and hit 'send'. If your friend accepts the message request, you'll be able to react with emoji, send texts, and share content back and forth. You can access your Messages at any time by tapping on your profile photo in the top left corner.
