Spotify Wrapped says his 'listening age' is 86, but he's only 36

But, oh, how the tables have finally turned. Now, young people in their teens and 20s are getting a dose of Spotify's cruel and merciless wrath."

"Spotify Wrapped just added a new metric to its year-end personalized wrap-up: "listening age." In addition to telling you which songs and artists you listened to the most, it will give you an estimated age based on your listening tastes. And for some people, it's waaaay off. And Gen Z - and even some of us in the older set - is getting offended. Gharieth Edries is only 23, but Spotify just told him his listening age is 50."

Spotify Wrapped introduced a "listening age" metric that estimates a user's age based on listening tastes. The metric appears in the year-end personalized wrap-up alongside top songs and artists. Many younger listeners received much older estimated ages, prompting offense among Gen Z and others. Examples include a 23-year-old assigned age 50, a 22-year-old Fleetwood Mac fan pegged at 68, and a colleague in his 30s with heavy jazz listening given age 86. A 44-year-old reported a listening age of 59. The feature misaligns perceived youth with older music preferences, producing awkward and humiliating results.
