Bob Bongo Starkie died peacefully at age 73 after a battle with leukaemia. Skyhooks members expressed exceptional sadness and sent condolences to his family. He fought leukaemia for the past year while hoping to return to touring; music remained his passion until the end. Starkie was the guitarist in the iconic Skyhooks, the youngest member who embraced theatrical makeup and unique stage costumes while prioritising the music and live performance. Born in 1952, he joined Skyhooks soon after their 1973 formation in Melbourne, replacing his brother Peter on guitar. Skyhooks became culturally significant in Australia and were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1992. Starkie cancelled planned 50th anniversary shows for the album Ego Is Not A Dirty Word because of ill health and had hoped to reschedule.
