"Shinedown is everyone's band. We feel that we have been given a platform to bring all people together through the power of music and song. We have one BOSS, and it is everyone in the audience. Our band's purpose is to unite, not divide. With that in mind, we have made the decision that we will not be playing the Rock The Country Festival."
"We know this decision will create differences of opinion. But we do not want to participate in something we believe will create further division. And to our fans, thank you for supporting and believing in us. We love and appreciate you always. Ironically, Shinedown's drummer, Barry Kerch, previously called Ludacris a "coward" after he himself dropped out of Rock the Country."
Shinedown withdrew from the Rock the Country festival after being slated to headline the Anderson, South Carolina stop on July 25 and 26. The Anderson stop no longer appears on the festival's website. Shinedown framed its platform as a means to bring people together through music and said the band's purpose is to unite, not divide. The band said it would not participate in events it believes will create further division and acknowledged the decision could prompt differing opinions. The band thanked fans for their support and appreciation. Drummer Barry Kerch had previously called Ludacris a "coward" after Ludacris withdrew.
