Alex Van Halen and former bandmate Sammy Hagar have not spoken in 21 years, largely attributed to Hagar's continued performing capabilities, which frustrates Van Halen. Hagar believes Van Halen's anger stems from his own inability to perform post-injury, stating that while he and former bassist Mike Anthony keep the band's legacy alive, it pains Van Halen to watch. Hagar continues to perform and recently released a new single, reflecting on the band's past while maintaining their music's presence.
"I think Al's angry because I'm out doing it, and Mike and I are out doing it, and he can't," Hagar told Rolling Stone.
"He seems like he doesn't want to play drums or can't play drums anymore, and he can't go write a new record," Hagar said.
"I'm out there selling Van Halen records and keeping the name alive, keeping the music alive," he said.
"Just leave me alone. I'll leave you alone. Everything's good," Hagar mentioned regarding his relationship with Alex.
